Introduction

Scheduled Maintenance is a set time period during which specific resources in your IT environment undergo maintenance activities.

These activities might include:

  • Software updates
  • Security patches
  • Hardware upgrades
  • Database maintenance
  • Backup and disaster recovery.

Scheduled Maintenance is essential to minimize downtime and disruptions to business operations, while enhancing the security and efficiency of your infrastructure. It is vital for optimal utilization, availability, and performance of your IT assets.

Create and manage scheduled maintenance on the managed resources in your IT environment.

Following are the actions you can perform on a scheduled maintenance:

  • Create - Create a scheduled maintenance.
  • View - View the scheduled maintenance details.
  • Edit - Edit pending scheduled maintenance.
  • Create Copy - Create a copy of an existing scheduled maintenance.
  • Suspend - Suspend active scheduled maintenance.
  • End - End an active scheduled maintenance window.
  • Resume - Resume suspended maintenance window.
  • Remove - Remove a pending or completed maintenance window.

Create a scheduled maintenance

Follow these steps to create a scheduled maintenance:

  1. Navigate to Setup > Account. The ACCOUNT DETAILS screen is displayed.

  2. Click Scheduled Maintenance tile. The SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE screen is displayed.

  3. Click +ADD.

  4. Enter the following information in the ADD SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE screen:

    All Resources or Selected Resources
    RadiobuttonAll Resources: Select this option if you want to assign all the resources in the client.
    Selected Resources : Select this option if you want to manually assign resources. Scheduled maintenance will be created for all the selected resources.
    You can use any of the options - Manually Assigned Resources, Resource Groups, or Sites, or a combination of them.
    Manually Assigned Resources (0/100)DropdownSelect the resources from the dropdown. You can also use the ADVANCED SEARCH link to select resources:
    1. Click ADVANCED SEARCH and click +QUERY and build a query.
    2. Select the resources and click APPLY SELECTION.
    Note: A maximum of 100 resources can be selected.
    Resource Groups (0/50)DropdownSelect resource group(s) from the dropdown.
    Note: A maximum of 50 groups can be selected.
    Sites (0/50)DropdownSelect site(s) from the dropdown.
    Note: A maximum of 50 sites can be selected.

    MAINTENANCE WINDOW DETAILS

    • One-time
    • Daily
    • Weekly

    • Run RBA scripts during this window: The system will run RBA scripts during the maintenance period.
    • Install patches during this window: The system will install patches during the maintenance period.
    • Correlate all open alerts when window ends: All the open alerts will be correlated when the maintenance period ends.
    • Escalate maintenance alerts when window ends: All the maintenance alerts will be escalated when the maintenance period ends.
    • Define alert criteria to classify an alert as a maintenance alert:
      1. Click ANY or ALL to match any one or all of the conditions you define for filtering.
      2. Enter information for the filter criteria in the following fields:
        1. Property: Select the required attribute.
        2. Operator: Select the operator.
        3. Value: Select or enter the value accordingly.
          • Click +ADD to add more conditions.
          • Click the delete icon to delete a condition.
        Note:
        • Alerts that meet the conditions given in the Filter Criteria will be triggered as Scheduled Maintenance alerts.
        • Alerts that do not meet the conditions given in the Filter Criteria will be triggered as Monitoring alerts.
  5. Click ADD MAINTENANCE WINDOW. The Scheduled Maintenance is created and displayed on the SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE listing screen.

Use the search box to search for the newly created Scheduled Maintenance.

Note: During scheduled maintenance, the system will still generate alerts when issues occur. It will not escalate or correlate alerts, even if specified in the scheduled maintenance configuration; it will escalate or correlate once the maintenance window is completed.

The Scheduled Maintenance listing screen displays the following information:

DescriptionDescription of the Scheduled Maintenance.
Displays a clock tooltip. Hover over the tooltip to view the schedule information.
ResourcesNumber of resources assigned to the scheduled maintenance. Click on the number to view the details.
Resource GroupsNumber of resource groups assigned to the scheduled maintenance. Click on number to view the details.
SitesNumber of sites assigned to the scheduled maintenance. Click on the number to view the details.
Alert ConditionsYes: Alert conditions are defined. Alerts are triggered based on the filter criteria.
No: No alert conditions are defined, so no alerts are triggered.
Escalate AlertsYes if the option to escalate maintenance alerts when window ends is selected during the schedule maintenance creation process.
Correlate AlertsYes if the option to Correlate all open alerts when window ends is selected during the schedule maintenance creation process.

Manage scheduled maintenance

You can perform the following actions on scheduled maintenance.

View DetailsTo view scheduled maintenance details:
  1. Use the search option to search for the scheduled maintenance and click on the scheduled maintenance name.
    Alternatively, hover over the row and click on the action (three dots) icon that appears on the right and select View Details.
Create CopyTo create a copy:
  1. Search for the scheduled maintenance.
  2. Hover over the row and click on the action (three dots) icon that appears on the right.
  3. Select Create Copy.
  4. Make the required changes in the fields.
  5. Click on Save.
EditNote: You can edit only pending scheduled maintenance.
To edit:
  1. From the dropdown available on the upper-right corner of the screen, select Pending.
    All the pending schedule maintenance records are displayed.
  2. Search for the scheduled maintenance and click on the scheduled maintenance name.
    Alternatively, hover over the row and click on the action (three dots) icon that appears on the right and select View Details.
  3. Make the required changes in the fields.
  4. Click on Save.
FilterYou can filter scheduled maintenance based on their status.
To filter:
  1. Click the dropdown next to search icon and select a status. The records are filtered and displayed.
    By default, all Active and Pending maintenance records are displayed.
You can view pending maintenance records scheduled for the
Next 1 day,
Next 2 days, Next 7 days, and All Future.
To view:
  1. Select Pending status from the dropdown. The calendar icon is displayed.
  2. Click calendar icon and select desired time range. All pending maintenance records based on the range selected are displayed.
Choose the Select All option to view Active, Pending, Suspended, and Completed maintenance windows.
SuspendYou can suspend an active scheduled maintenance.
To suspend:
  1. From the dropdown available on the upper-right corner of the screen, select Active.
    All the active schedule maintenance records are displayed.
  2. Search for the scheduled maintenance.
  3. Hover over the row and click on the action (three dots) icon that appears on the right and select Suspend.
  4. You have the option to either suspend the maintenance window now or for a specific time period. By default, the Suspend Now option is selected.
  5. To set the date range from the calendar, clear the Suspend Now check box and click Set Date Range and select the date range. To set it only for one day, disable the End Date option and select the date. Click Apply.
  6. Click Suspend.
Bulk Suspend: You can suspend multiple active maintenance windows at a time.
To bulk suspend maintenance windows:
  1. Click the Filter option and select Active.
  2. Select the maintenance windows you want to suspend.
  3. Click the ACTIONS dropdown and select Suspend. The SUSPENDING MAINTENANCE WINDOWS popup box is displayed.
  4. Click SUSPEND to suspend the maintenance windows. A confirmation message appears.
The schedule maintenance status is set to "Suspended."
EndYou can end an active scheduled maintenance.
To end:
  1. From the dropdown available on the upper-right corner of the screen, select Active.
    All the active schedule maintenance records are displayed.
  2. Search for the scheduled maintenance.
  3. Hover over the row and click on the action (three dots) icon that appears on the right and select End.
  4. Click on End. The selected active maintenance window is ended and marked as Complete.
Bulk End: You can end multiple active maintenance windows at a time.
To bulk end maintenance windows:
  1. Click the Filter option and select Active.
  2. Select the maintenance windows you want to end.
  3. Click the ACTIONS dropdown and select End. The END MAINTENANCE WINDOWS popup box is displayed.
  4. Click END to end the maintenance windows. A confirmation message appears.
The schedule maintenance status is set to "End."
ResumeYou can resume a suspended maintenance window.
To resume:
  1. From the dropdown available on the upper-right corner of the screen, select Suspended .
    All the suspended schedule maintenance records are displayed.
  2. Search for the scheduled maintenance.
  3. Hover over the row and click on the action (three dots) icon that appears on the right and select Resume.
  4. Click Resume. The maintenance window is resumed for all the associated resources.
Bulk Resume: You can resume multiple suspended maintenance windows at a time.
To bulk resume maintenance windows:
  1. Click the Filter option and select Suspended.
  2. Select the maintenance windows you want to resume.
  3. Click the ACTIONS dropdown and select Resume. The RESUME MAINTENANCE WINDOWS popup box is displayed.
  4. Click RESUME to resume the maintenance windows. A confirmation message appears.
The schedule maintenance status is set to "Active."
RemoveYou can remove a pending or completed maintenance window.
Note: Once removed, the maintenance record(s) cannot be reverted.
To remove:
  1. From the dropdown available on the upper-right corner of the screen, select the required option - Pending or Completed. Based on the option selected, the schedule maintenance records are displayed.
  2. Search for the scheduled maintenance.
  3. Hover over the row and click on the action icon that appears on the right and select Remove.
  4. Click Remove. The maintenance window is removed permanently.
Bulk Remove: You can remove multiple pending or completed maintenance windows at a time.
To bulk remove maintenance windows:
  1. Click the Filter option and select Pending and/or Completed.
  2. Select the maintenance windows you want to remove.
  3. Click the ACTIONS dropdown and select Remove. The REMOVE MAINTENANCE WINDOWS popup box is displayed.
  4. Click REMOVE to remove the maintenance windows. A confirmation message appears.
